Hi,
I have a 2002 TF Steptronic and the yellow engine warning light comes on now and again then goes off.
Any ideas what this would mean ?

You need to scan the EM as it could be many things.
Leads.coils
Lamda- there are 2 of them.
Stepper motor.
air filter.

As said a code reader is a good place to start, however if it was a real error then I would expect the light to stay on. It may point to an issue with the battery and/or alternator leading to lower voltage after start up that improves after the engine has run for a time.

Looking in my non-steppy TF handbook, amber light could be:
'Antilock braking system - illuminates when starter switch is turned on for approx 5s'
'Engine Indicator - illuminates when starter switch is turned on and extinguishes once engine is running'
Or, Low fuel - apparently illuminates when fuel is as low as 8l or 1.8gall
So no major worries...
BUT I think if you're low on brake fluid and/or if the handbrake switch below the lever is faulty you can get amber as well. Check brake fluid level first, I reckon...

oops sorry...just seen Engine Indicator is amber too - I just assumed it'd be red...😕
Yep it should be off with the engine running.

I've got a ZS Stepspeed, I've never had the problem. If you live near Alloa central Scotland, I've got a professional reader and I would be happy to scan your car.
